Ashley Olsen's flats

Ashley has been spotted in the same leather flats she wore a lot at the start of 2008.

You can still buy similar flats at Urban Outfitters, for $38:

Mary Kate Olsen in '09

Neither of the twins (especially Ashley, unfortunately) have made many appearances so far in 2009.

MK at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival Program Party on March 27th (left) and attending the Metropolitan Opera's 125th Anniversary Gala on March 15th:
both outfits swamp her (not unusual for MK), and her makeup on the right makes her look close to death (again, not uncommon for her)

At the 2009 Film Independent Spirit Awards:

This (Balmain dress and Proenza Schouler shoes) is, imo, one of her best outfits for a long time. I would adore the dress if only it didn't have the shoulder pads.

Reminds me a lot of this jacket she wore back in September:

And finally, two of the shoes from the twins' up-coming collection:

Seasonal Cravings

*WRITTEN BY ESPIONAGE*

Spring has begun and summer is approaching ever so quickly, which means that it is time to give your style a few tweaks to amp things up for warm weather, skipping through puddles, and tons of sunshine. I consider the warmer seasons a great chance to have a little fashion fun, and hopefully you feel the same.

I plan on working the season change into my style slowly and surely. So, here are a few basics I think are perfect for the season.

1. Pastel nail polish. I sport dark colors all through the fall and winter (I’m an avid fan of dark grays, blues, purples and burgundies) however when it comes to summertime I like to experiment with what I put on my nails, and I like to keep things light and girly. Shimmery sand colors (how appropriate!), cream and matte pinks are a few of my favorites.

2. Floral dresses. Personally I’m a fan of the smaller prints, but whatever works for you. Florals are the epitome of girly springtime. Plus, they always make me think of Beverly Hills 90210 (season four), and I always find it’s fun to be nostalgic for 90210. If you get a floral dress I’ll be the Brenda to your Kelly.

3. Bows. I know we all aren’t Blair Waldorf, and we all don’t want a giant bow on the side of our head, but bows are so feminine and fun that I like to find ways to work them into outfits. Necklaces are my current favorite, particularly something with a thin chain and delicate shape.
4. Rompers. I’m thinking this will not happen, but if I’m feeling brave over the summer I’d love the attempt to wear a romper. I think they’re so youthful and cute. Maybe a bit too risky, but I’d say they have a nice quirkiness to them.

What do you need for this spring/summer?

Daisy Lowe

Daisy Lowe is pretty much the person whose style I admire the most at the moment.
She's the British equivalent of someone like Nicole Richie - famous for having famous parents, famous friends and a famous boyfriend, although she is now a model.

I love her.

Hair Care

My hair is naturally fine, curly and really frizzy. Before it was dyed it would get greasy quickly, despite the ends often feeling dry. I couldn't get away without washing my hair pretty much every day.
The best thing I found for my hair was Kerastase Specifique Bain Deviant. Described as "balancing shampoo for oily roots and sensitized ends", it's a clarifying shampoo that is still gentle on the body of your hair (most clarifying shampoos and drying if used too often)

Then about four or five years ago I started getting blonde highlights in my hair. Over that time I've learnt a lot about what you should, and what you shouldn't, do for coloured hair (a lot of it thanks to makeupalley.com)

I love TiGi Superstar shampoo. It smells amazing, and is sulfate-free so it's gentle on coloured hair and reduces fading (you should not regularly use a clarifying shampoo on coloured hair. They work by basically deep-cleaning your hair, so they would also strip your colour).
If you have dyed-blonde hair you should also be using a purple toning shampoo once a week to stop the colour getting brassy (yellow/orange). The best one I have come across is Joico Color Endure Violet Shampoo, which you leave on for five minutes. A bottle lasts you a long time (despite my love for Redken I would not recommend their Pure Pearl toner)

Out of the dozens of conditioners I have tried by far the best for highlighted hair is Redken Extreme. It doesn't moisturise (so using a leave-in conditioner after is a good idea), but adds protein to your hair, which is something cloured hair often lacks. If your hair feels dry or is breaking off, despite you using moisturising conditioner on it, it is most likely lacking protein. Although using too much protein on your hair, or when your hair doesn't need it, can dry it out, so you have to figure out what the right balance is for you.
Regular deep conditioning treatments have also really help keep my hair healthy, my favourite being Philip Kingsley's Elasticizer. You use it before you shampoo, which I much prefer to having to either hang around in the shower for 15mins at the end, or getting out and getting back in. The "elasticising effect improves suppleness, stretchability, strength and shine whilst leaving your hair softer, less brittle, beautifully manageable and lustrous." You use it weekly, and you can already feel a big difference just as you're rinsing it out in the shower.

Last, but definitely not least, the best hair product I have ever come across...

Batiste dry shampoo. Costs just £2.05 for a can, and if like me you have fine hair where the roots get oily quickly it is an absolute god-send. You just shake the can, spray onto your hair and rub it in. Like the talc technique, but works so much better and is way less messy.
This leads us onto the age-old question: how often should you wash your hair? Every day, every other day, twice a week? Once every three months? (love you HoG)
How often do you guys wash your hair?
What are your favourite hair products/tips?
Has anyone had any success with home-made hair masks?

Outfit for Naoki

Because she's my ym-bff, and because I don't really know where to start with this blog.
She's already seen this, so I know she likes it!
(apologies is a lot of stuff I post is from UK websites)
